First Day of Issue Souvenir Program for Scott #1189 (C1E1) 4c James Naismith Basketball stamp. November 6, 1961, Springfield, Massachusetts.  Ceremony held at Memorial Field House, Springfield College. Commemoration included an academic convocation, laying of cornerstone to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and a luncheon.  Basketball Commemoration Day did not involve U.S. post office officials beyond sanctioning Springfield as the official city.   Program measures 11" x 8 1/2".
